One of the platforms we’re talking about today and mentioned above is WordPress. Most people don’t know this, but there are two different WordPress websites, and a lot of people get them mixed up. The easiest way to tell the difference is ‘.org’ provides customization and monetization options. On the other hand, ‘.com’ gives users a simple way to get started for free and can expand to more custom-paid features as their business grows.

Choose the free WordPress.com option if you are a personal blogger and have no concerns about making money from your website. However, if you’re a business or blogger that wants to monetize your website, we advise using the self-hosted WordPress.org.

Showit vs. WordPress

Showit is a simple drag-and-drop website builder that allows you to fully customize your site. Think of Showit as the design of your website. WordPress is a website hosting platform and content management system. Think of WordPress as the main place your website is hosted and gets traffic from.

Showit uses WordPress for its blogging framework. So, you’ll design your blog template in Showit and use WordPress to compose your blogs. While WordPress can work independently, Showit offers far more customization options for design. We recommend using both to start your blog.

Making the Connection Between Showit and WordPress

As we mentioned earlier, Showit is a design tool, and WordPress is a content management system. You’ll design your blog in Showit, then write and post your blogs in WordPress. You’ll log into WordPress (yoururl.com/wp-admin) with your Showit username and password.

You’ll use Showit to create placeholders for components like the post title, date, category, content, and images. These components will be the same for every blog post, so make sure you like the layout! Anytime you publish a new blog in WordPress, it will automatically translate to the design you create in Showit. 

On your Showit blog page, you will only see the blog template you set up, not your actual blog posts. When you’re setting up your website in Showit, it will prompt you whether you are creating a new blog or migrating over an existing blog. Don’t worry about creating a WordPress account; the Showit team will set up your account and email your login info within a few days.

Putting Content in WordPress

Once you have your login from the Showit team, you’ll log into your WordPress dashboard and start creating new posts! This is what a WordPress blog looks like on the backend:

To get a new WordPress blog setup, on the left-hand side of the screen, you’ll see sections of your account. Go to ‘Posts’ to create a new WordPress blog post. This page is where you put all your content for your blog post. You’ll want to go into your ‘Plugins’ section and make sure a few of these plugins are turned on or activated:

• Yoast SEO – provides features such as keyword analysis, XML sitemap creation, and content readability analysis. Yoast also offers suggestions and recommendations to improve on-page SEO factors, including meta tags, URL structure, and internal linking.
• Akismet Anti-Spam – prevent spam comments on websites.
• Jetpack by WordPress.com – offers security measures such as automated backups and malware scanning, among other security features.
• jQuery Pin It Button for Images – allows your site visitors to easily share images on Pinterest.

There are tons of plugins you can use in WordPress. Just be sure you research which one’s you really need, but those are a great start.

After you publish your blog post, you’ll see it on your live website. Everything will still appear the same on your Showit blog page. Remember, since the blogs are hosted in WordPress, they won’t show up in Showit; only the blog template will be there. On your live website, you’ll see your blog posts being pulled into your design.
